  • “Amazing public and private onsen. Beautiful and clean room. Kind and friendly staff. Would highly recommend staying here.”

  • “The landscape and architecture, the history and spirituality, were all beyond words to describe. Visiting and staying at the temple speaks to why we travel. This place is for those who love to meet and experience other cultures and who want to understand our varied histories. It's challenging to get to with a few train connections to navigate. If you have a bit of luggage, it's a bit trickier. Practically, maybe consider taking a bus if you have lots of luggage. The many train connections were a little challenging, but doable. And practice sitting cross legged on the ground before you go (particularly if you are not that flexible - although they make allowances and will provide chairs.”

  • “The onsens we delightful and the staff were extremely helpful and polite.”

  • “This property offers a unique experience, staying at a Buddhist Temple. The half board inclusion is Japanese vegan food, reflective of what the priest and monks eat every day. It was well prepared and enjoyable.Although they don’t consume alcohol it can be purchased at a reasonable price during dinner. The spacious accommodation is operated by trainee monks who were very friendly and make us feel most welcome.”

  • Minshuku Sumiya Review Score: 10

  • “Eko-In is a well established temple in Koyasan used to foreign visitors. Fantastic vegan food and the room was so comfortable. We had a room in the new building and it was perfect.”
