Bathroom facilities are shared, and the public baths are open 16:00-22:00 and 06:00-09:00 daily. The warmth and openness of the monks and staff, the clean and elegant interiors found in the entire property, delicious shojin ryori beautifully presented in the room, purposeful guided meditation in a beautiful hall, the ceremonies with the strong and beautiful voices of the monks - all of these combined made for an unforgettable stay at Ekoin. Meeting Nori, Se Shiu, and all the other monks was one of the highlights of our trip; they made us feel really welcome anytime we met and were happy to answer our questions with insight and thoughtfulness, making it look easy when in fact they were always busy with keeping things in order. They also guide guests during the Okunoin Cemetery night tours and imbue it with a lot of meaning.

Everyone there was wonderful, willing to help even with the language barrier. The dinner and breakfast were delicious (if you stay more than one night, note that you'll eat the same dinner and breakfast) The room and all the temple was super clean and calm. It was a great place to stay! I really love the ceremonies that I could witness, meditation in the evening, morning ceremony and goma ceremony (fire ceremony). The one thing I was surprised by is that the showers are "Onsen Showers" so it's in a commun room, with little stools where you can clean yourself before entering the bath. Not a negative point, just something I wasn't expecting. Thanks to all the staff there for a wonderful stay!

I like the feel of the property. It was exactly what I was looking for on that part with the tatami floors and the futon. It was a lovely surprise to use the yukata
The ryokan's onsen was amazing, the staff was very welcoming and helpful, everything was provided and explained to us (yukatas, amenities, tea, crackers...). Location was also great, right next to bus station.
Lovely stay in traditional Ryokan with futon beds. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Nice option to use onsen and try bath robes. Breakfast is well made and presented by staff.
The staff was friendly and for the price it was really good. I really like the ryokan style of sleeping on a futon in a tatami room and having a public washroom with an already prepared hot bath. I know it's not for everyone. Would visit again if i ever come back to Kyoto.
This place was exactly what I was looking for. A quiet ryokan with a private tattoo-friendly onsen. My room was big and the futon was very comfy. I appreciated the complimentary water and a kettle to make tea. Everything was so good, thank you! I will definitely come back.
Great spacious room (free upgrade) with traditional style. The location is perfect to reach all the Onsens & the train station by walk. The staff was very kind & outgoing. Being able to choose our own Yukata was a nice touch. The Ryokan Onsens aren't spacious but they do the job just fine.
Super friendly and helpful staff, the room was spacious and we could even wear the traditional yukata. We had a comfy night on the tatami with the futon.
lovely hotel, traditional tatami, with Onsen. Stff was very kind when I asked if I could use the onsen as I have tattoos and asked if I should have covered them (they said no, it was ok) We booked the traditional breakfast which was superb.
Very welcoming monks Very close to the bus station and at a walking distance from the temples (careful, you must be back to the ryokan by 5pm) Dinner and breakfast (vegetarian) are delicious and served directly in the room The room was cosy and traditional, with comfortable futons, and yukatas are available There is a large hot tub, similar to an onsen to be shared with the other guests, this is where you shower too (you must be comfortable with nudity) We attended the morning ceremony, a unique moment
