“I like this purely natural hut on the primitie floating island, where we enjoyed the sun at our balcony. If you want, you can also swim in the lake. It's a very unqiue experience to stay on the floating island with acceptable cost.
The breakfast is included , with two local bread + egg or avocado or chicken. Fruit+honey and hot tea is provided, too. => delicious.
The dinner has trout or chicken with potato+rice+tomato+cucumber. I like the trout the most, it's very fresh and tasty.
The bed is very supportive and the quilt is very thick (3 flannel blanket in total), so it kept me warm in the midnight.
The owner Nicanor also organize the tour to visit the community(private tour by him) or to Taquile island(refer us to a travel agency)
Nothing goes wrong, but you need to be aware of the additional cost:
Dinner: 25 soles per person
Breakfast is included.
Pick up from/to Kalapajra Puerto: 20 soles one way, per boat. (so 40 soles for two ways)
Community tour: 30 soles/2hr per person
Taquile island tour: 100 soles per person, including ticket/english speaking guide/lunch.
Don't forget to bargain about the tour price, as his offer is a bit more in our opinion.
All in all, I'm very pleased to stay with Nicanor. I missed the time there.”
“We had a great stay on the floating island which is truly a unique experience. It is ideal for a couple of days to relax and calm down. The room was clean and Ricardo/Cyntia & family were super attentive and helped us with everything. We enjoyed the fresh food that was prepared by the family.
During the night it gets bit cold but we were prepared and managed with several layers.
We were able to do a couple of tours around Urus as well as Taquile Island. However, the most special was to speak with Ricardo and learn a lot about local culture, way of living and get an overall feeling of the community. An experience we won't forget.”
“What we liked most was peacefulness of this place. We decided to stop here for two nights and it was an excellent decision to catch breath in our journey through Peru.
The lodge was somehow surprising, nice and cozy but very different from any place we slept so far, you have to experience it on your own, one can say it’s survival, we like it very much.
Owners arranged transportation from/to Puno, boat trip was included in the lodge package as well as sightseeing of other Uros Islands with presentation of its life and culture.
Not to forget, meals we had were simple but very tasteful.”
“This old farm has a very interesting story, that was explained to us by Zéze, the son of the family who bought It.
The cottage we stayed in is still equipped with original furniture and pictures, which was very nice.
We stayed more than an hour in the field with the alpacas , and on the day after we went on a horse ride with Elmer, who takes really good care of all the animals.
If you're an early bird, Elmer will welcome you in the stable in the morning and show you how to milk the cows.
José and Zézé both have been really helpful throughout our stay at the farm, and they gave us lots of information.
The overall cost of our stay is a bit expensive for Peru, but we find the experience worth it.”
