  • Tokonamiso Review score: 7

“The hotel is a long way from anywhere, which is probably its attraction for most visitors. The shuttle service worked well though to reiterate its a long drive from Tsumago. Having a car would make it a little easier, but once you are there youre probably not going to leave anyway. We took food from Nagiso, as there is nothing to eat there. There are no food options in Tsumago or near the hotel (closest is around 2km away - a soba shop) There are vending machines for beers, and drinks and you can buy instant noodles. The room was fine, nothing special. However the Onsen in the main hotel was excellent, with a sauna, plunge pool, and outside baths.”

“The location was amazing, right in the middle of the temple and shops- just incredible!”

  • Hotel Nakamuraya Review score: 8

“Stayed here before we started a hike on the Nakasendo. Got the breakfast in the morning, which was very good. Conveniently located for station and some restaurants. The rooms arent large but are comfortable and the in house onsen is large and good. Some good restaurants nearby, but Shiojiri doesnt have much else going on, unless you like wine and Whiskey.....”

    “Lovely area”

  • Kisoji no Yado Iwaya Review score: 10

“Great family run hotel with an amazing garden and location. It was hard to get accomodation in the town, which meant we had to pay more for our room, however it was massive. With two toilets, two 8mat tatami rooms, and a sitting area overlooking the river. We had a huge room, with dinner and breakfast included. We went to sleep with the sound of the river. Staff were excellent.”

    “Location”

  • Hostel Yui-an Review score: 10

“We had an amazing one night stay at Hostel Yui-an. We would love to come back and stay for longer! The host picked us up from Nagiso station after our walk along the Nakasendo trail and took us the short journey to the house. The decor was stunning and very well laid out and is such a beautiful home. Our room was lovely and even although the weather was wet and cloudy, the views out over the hills were breath-taking. We had a lovely evening chatting to Erica and Yoshi (apologies if I misremembered the names!) while they cooked us a lovely dinner. I hope we didn't distract them from their working shift but they provided great conversation and great company! As well as the food we loved the plum wine and sake tasting, There was also some lovely gifts to purchase for taking back home with us. 10/10 - by far our favourite place we stayed during our trip to Japan”

  • Dormy Inn Nagano Review score: 8

    “Very clean and friendly staff”

  • “Great location, about 5 minutes walk away from Matsumoto Station. Lots of convenience stores and food shops nearby so it's easy to find food just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Free breakfast is convenient and even though choices are not expansive, they taste great and is enough to get you started for the day. There is video on demand service available in the room that you can purchase via the front desk, or paid through your smartphone using one of Japan's QR code payments (i.e. LINE Pay, etc.).”

  • Tateshina Shinyu Onsen Review score: 10

“One word: perfect. The atmosphere of the hotel felt really authentic, the food was super good and the staff explained everything. They were also very kind and helpful for any matter. There is the possibility to book a private onsen and the onsen itself is amazing and can only benefits your health. In conclusion, we will definitely come back.”
