Elegant hotel in 17th century building (with all virtues and vices) close to inner canals.

    • Basement Double Deluxe: The Brewer
    • Stayed 4 nights

All photographs (very good quality) are a bit misleading making impression of a larger space. The Brewer room has a low ceiling (less than 2 m) and in fact is without windows (small window was expected as it is in the basement but it was not possible to open it). The problem is that it was not ventilated well - we had to open doors to the street that was uncomfortable. There is no breakfast buffet ("to reduce the waste") but the need to ask for every single pice of butter or additional portion of food may be embarrassing for some people.

Excellent location and absolutely perfect staff and the service. A very elegant, nicely refurbished building with a creative theme - pleasant from aesthetic point of view. Very comfortable bathroom, good pressure of water, good quality cosmetics. The food for breakfast was of a very good quality but a limited variety (just eggs, ham, cheese and sweets). The choice of bread was limited (no wholemeal "heavy" bread). Coffee was very good.

Nothing to dislike, everything is as expected

Its a 17th century property, its amazing how well-kept it is. The staffs are all friendly and welcoming, everything I need can be communicated through whatsapp chat. Breakfast in bed is very nice, big spread and delicious. The room was really small but manageable for solo travelers. Nespresso and Dyson hairdryer gave the room a touch of modernity. For those that travel with large suitcases, a tiny elevator is available. Location is near dutch restos & Winkel43.

The hotel was in a perfect location, close to everything Amsterdam has to offer. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. The hotel is small enough to offer great service, especially for breakfast. We loved having breakfast brought to our room each morning- and it was superb! I would definitely recommend staying there.

It’s not the fault of the hotel, but the charmingly ancient windows let you hear all that goes on on the street below. Fortunately, nothing much went on while we stayed there, but ear plugs could come handy if one is a light sleeper.

Lovely views from the Shoe Maker room were what I enjoyed the most. The room itself was even more charming than the pictures promised, with its ancient wooden floors and accents and furniture. (Tall people beware!) The breakfast was light unless you ordered especially. Communication with the staff was seamless. There is so much to enjoy within easy walking distance and public transport is quite near to take you everywhere else.

If you have mobility problems, the hotel might be quite challenging, since spaces are small, elevator is very small and there are many steps and stairs.

The hotel is lovely, located in an old building overlooking one of Amsterdam's canals. Staff is young, extremely kind and efficient. Breakfast was excellent. I spent only one night, in a tiny but very cute bedroom (The Instrument Maker), with a big window with canal view. The sigle room can be small if you have big luggage.

    That I didn't stay longer!!

Booked this hotel as a last minute weekend trip / and boy did I chose well! Firstly, communication with the hotel via Whatsapp made it so easy to just pop them a message about arrival time, or if I required anything! Now after I arrived, expectations just continued to be exceeded! The location is super convenient (10/15 minute walk from Central Station or a 5 minute tram ride), it is very well marked so you cannot miss it. The interiors are so superb, a very luxe feel (however very affordable) - the bed was like sleeping on a cloud, rain shower was wonderful and there was little touches like history about the room as certain pieces were imported as well as a bottle of Prosecco already chilled in the fridge - but that view from the window, next level! I was given the option of breakfast in the room which had all the trimmings (I am still dreaming about the mini Dutch pancakes) and arrived at the time I asked. Lastly, the staff at this hotel are just INCREDIBLE / special shout out to Jasmin who was just fabulous at check in! But every staff were so lovely, asking how your day was, if they could help and just genuinely wanted you to have the best time / which I did! When checking out, I received a lovely farewell gift which was such a nice touch! Would REALLY recommend staying here, if it's your first, third or 100th time - one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Amsterdam!

This is not a criticism, but visitors should be aware that because this hotel is built in a centuries old property, the staircases to get to the rooms are very narrow, steep and circular!. There is an elevator but it is very small.

The Craftsman Hotel is a unique gem in the heart of Amsterdam. Built in a 17th century canal house, every room is fantastically designed to replicate a different type of "craftsman" workshop. We stayed in the Blacksmith room. My other family members stayed in the Bookbinder and Miller rooms. Each one was magical. Best of all, the staff is absolutely amazing. Everyone was friendly, helpful and bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable and memorable. Plus the included breakfast every morning was amazing. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough!!

We in basement flat The Brewers Room, which had its own entrance in off street so that was the perk but very dark, had to have lights on all the time so never knew if day or night outside. Attention to detail in layout, decoration and comfort of my room and shared areas enhanced the canal views and charm. My vegan breakfast was sourced to equal the standard offered and very good. Location was perfect for arrival from the station and then to explore. The staff were without exception friendly, helpful and again attention to detail. Although on the edge of most popular tourist attractions it was quiet and with excellent assessment of my preference for individual shops etc I was pointed in the right direction. Their adjoining 'sandwich' shop had delicious offerings. The small cocktail bar just across the street a great recommendation. This stay certainly set the bar very high as I embarked on a months solo travel.
