I chose Atami as one of the relaxing spots on my busy travel route and Korakuen's offer of Ocean Spa Fuua was what attracted me to this hotel. On the spot is came out that the facility had so much to offer that I could have spent my entire Atami stay inside its premises. The Ocean Spa Fuua was a great joy with its diverse baths and the chill zone - well designed, beautiful and immaculately maintained. I appreciated the amenities in the room and the spa itself, hotel dress included. The shops were an unexpectedly nice addition. The buffet dinner and breakfast was more than I expected, with abundant choice of good quality foods. As I arrived late afternoon I had this dilemma where to spend my evening - in the Fuua spa or at a dinner table ;-) Hotel's location, with a shuttle from/to railway station, just at the foot of the ropeway hill and next to the quaint fishing port, was just perfect. Overall, I very much enjoyed my stay at Korakuen and it would be my pick if ever my route brings me to Atami again. There is so much to explore about Korakuen :-)

Booked a one night stay as a stop gap and loved it. Thankfully arrived early enough to dump our bags and head to the beach for the afternoon, not too crowded on a Saturday (May) and had a lovely swim, fish but not great visibility and some rubbish but had worse.
Had a great seafood dinner, live abalone and buzzing street life.
Stayed at Minori villa which was lovely, amazing view but bit of a climb. The shrine with the big tree was the best temple experience both 9pm in deadly silence and with the crowds the next day.

It's a beautiful town/city, not very many foreign tourists (that I saw). It's a great place to wind down and relax on a beach on one side and nature on the other. I don't like hot springs but I heard that they are also very nice there.

The location at the ocean side, with stunning views from Atami hills, the little fishing port and its numerous eateries with freshest possible ingredients, busy shopping avenue at the train station, historic Kiunkaku Villa and garden, serving as the town's cultural centre, where I spent hours strolling and talking to various artists and artisans exhibiting their work, charming ladies at the villa's cafe, and the gem - MOA museum, what a great find! All this makes me long to come to Atami yet again during my next trip to Japan :-)

I didn't technically stayed in Atami city center, but a small town called Ajiro which is only two stations away from Atami, and our ryokan is 4 minutes walk from the station. It's a serene place with perfect combination of sea view and hot spring. The town is small, but it has quite some awesome restaurants ran by local people. I would recommend Satsuki Sushi and Shogyo Seafood Restaurant, premium quality food with very affordable price.
Ajiro is definitely an underrated town. Since the town center is both close to the JR train station and the seaside, it's a good place to stay and easy to travel between the izu towns by JR.

The hotel is beautiful.
The hotel is beautiful. Room is spacious and has amazing views. Hotel staff are attentive and helpful. Onsen was old but facilities are working fine. Location is near Atami attractions.
I wasn't aware that I have to make reservation for dinner even though the booking made was half board. Upon check in, I was told that I will only have Western dinner for my whole stay. I knew the hotel has a French restaurant but I didn't know that I have to state my choice of dinner in advance. Western dinner was ok, service at the French restaurant was excellent but the food quantity is too little (even for a small eater). On the second day, I requested for Japanese dinner but was told that Japanese restaurant was fully booked. After speaking with 6 different staff, the Japanese restaurant agreed to accommodate 2 more diners for one night but we had to eat our dinner at 5pm. My advice - please make reservation for dinner in advance. They have French and Japanese food to choose from.
Wonderful ryokan that matched all the expectations for traditional Japanese hospitality. Very efficient and kind staff. Great service but not in an overwhelming way. My mother and I both loved the onsen with the beautiful view of the ocean. (Bonus - it was fun to watch the trains coming and going through the train station from a distance at night, plus the pretty night view of the small city.) The breakfast was very delicious and beautiful. The owner dropped us off at Atami station when we left. Highly recommend this place.
Grand Bach exceeded our expectations, the views are fabulous, the food is beyond excellent, the in-room hot spring bath was most enjoyable and clean. If you have to find faults, it will be the room was a bit smaller than expected for the price. The room was a bit damp because the hot spring steam vapour. But the price-inclusive dinner and breakfast was the “best” that we ever had in Japan….
The host was absolutely incredible! She was so kind and had a private onsen ready for us upon our arrival! The room was spacious and overlooked atami, it was so beautiful! The bathroom was clean and tidy, and we met some lovely people in the reception and living space! We were only there for one night, but wish we had stayed more! Already planning a time to come back🌸
The owner is very friendly. We had a Japanese style room, it was spacious and we were especially happy to have a microwave in the room! The toilet and bathroom are separated, which is both convenient and rare. Very good location, close enough to the beach, with a convenience store just across the street and a supermarket within walking distance.
House was very nicely renovated with a balanced mix of traditional Japanese style and modern western design. Kids loved the hidden room on the second floor. House is clean, well maintained, beds were comfy, WiFi in place and the projector was a nice bonus. From the second floor you could catch a view of the sea.
We spent 4 nights at the ryokan. At first we were worried that the booking would be too long. However we loved the trip back in time to a sleepy onsen town The banquet for one dinner and one breakfast was outstanding. We made the most of the Atami area and having lived in Japan it made everything easier
There is a spa called "Fuua" in an adjacent hotel building where I got free access due to staying at the hotel. This is the most awesome onsen I have been to so far in Japan, would stay again just for this reason. Even though the hotel is a bit far from Atami station there are frequent shuttle buses going!
The location by Nishikigaura was awesome! I enjoyed three different baths, especially Sparium where I saw the sunrise from.
The free shuttle service between the hotel and Atami Station.
Breakfast at Bonour was delicious. I really enjoyed the locally harvested food.
Nearly everything. I love Atami, and the hotel provides an exceptional view of Sagami Bay. The food is wonderful even for ryokan standards and the rooms are spacious and really elegant. The private bath is large enough for two people to fit in comfortably.
The room and common rooms are very tastefully decorated.
One of the biggest double rooms and most comfortable beds in Japan so far!
The location is right on the main street, close to restaurants, bus stops and the beach.
The hotel is a bit old but we enjoyed the facilities there, common room with movie and free popcorn was great, mini gym was fine to me. The room is good, we love to sit, relax and see the sea view from our room.
Atami is awesome all-around. Western beds are so much more comfortable than Futons, but you still get the Ryokan experience here. Staff was exceptionally awesome as expected of Japanese service providers.
Very nice stay, Japanese rules but if you obey them then its a fantastic place to stay
Basic Japanese breakfast
Great views of the bay from the rooms and has a rooftop terrace too.
Great Onsen
Quiet ryokan up on a hill with a view overlooking the valley and onto the bay. Good breakfast selection. Tokai Bus from Atami station stops right in front of the hotel lobby.
very clean and well maintained rooms, easy check in. A few minutes from Atami station. nice night view of the city. The onsens were smaller than usual but very very clean.
It was a beautiful retreat that allowed you to unwind in a small coastal town. The traditional Japanese breakfast was wonderful and the onsen amenities were fantastic.
Modern hotel with everything you need whilst staying in Atami. Clean rooms and all modern. Really friendly staff on check in. We would certainly stay again!
