Visa or Mastercard is not widely accepted at all places. and some shops only take Cash but does not have change for larger notes that the ATM's give you. the Beach front restaurants mostly do take Visa/Mastercard and most CBD hotels. but the further you stay/travel outside Luanda most places only take cash(small notes) and local bank cards.

A normal, chaotic big African city - more expensive than most. Relatively safe to walk around downtown during the day; take care at night. If you need to be there for business, it's better than many 3rd world cities. For tourism, not much to see/do in Luanda. Airports are normal: Completely chaotic

Luanda is growing fast transforming into attractive place for visitors and businessmen. Museums are good enough, but there are only a few of them. Unfortunately criminal activity is also growing so be careful avoiding be robbed.

Wilson was an excellent host, replying to my numerous questions promptly and allowing us to check out late - he also speaks English! The apartment has good security but we didn't feel unsafe in Luanda - we walked all over the downtown area and had no issues. There are a couple of small supermarkets nearby, and plenty to do - walk along the Marginal, spend a day at the beach clubs on Ilha, visit the Iron Palace, the Fort (and Forteleza Shopping Centre), several museums, etc.

The location is great with an expensive but good supermarket nearby and others in the vicinity. The breakfast was basic but met our needs. The cleaning and laundry staff especially were very attentive. The "Italian" restaurant next door (nothing to do with the guesthouse) was our worst meal experience in Luanda during 8 days so would recommend going a little further afield if you intend to eat out in the evening.
