Interesting place! Some beautiful sites around the main square. Worth staying close by to attractions as walking is the best way to get around, Traffic is a gridlocked nightmare. People are generally friendly and helpful. Try to get out to the countryside to see the natural beauty of Mongolia.

Ulaanbaatar is a great location (and one of the only options...
Ulaanbaatar is a great location (and one of the only options) to base your Mongolia starting point out of. Having a few nights in the city is all you need, but when traveling to Mongolia, your goal should be to get into the country and tour what makes Mongolia and it's nomadic culture and open landscape so unique. For example, in a 10 day trip to Mongolia, I would only spend 3 days in Ulaanbaatar and the rest with a guide out in the countryside.

It was noisy and very busy with traffic.
It was noisy and very busy with traffic. Footpaths are a walking hazard. Very few people spoke English and weren't very helpful.
I found a delightful vegan cafe that had modified traditional Mongolian food so I ate there a couple of times. The Gandan Monastery precinct was interesting.

Ulaanbaatar s a great base for exploring Mongolia.
Ulaanbaatar s a great base for exploring Mongolia. It’s a modern capital but with the added extra that it’s the centre of a nomadic country. The 1930s purge means that there is not a lot of old culture. So if you like temples and castles, go somewhere else. Sukkbataar Square is great to wander around in teh evenings. Families and young people having fun and socialising. The Chinggis Khan museum is excellent.

A city in progress day by day with mixture of old building...
A city in progress day by day with mixture of old building and modern buildings in harmonization to let you feel both history and development at once time. There are paintings on wall of building on street reflecting either traditional culture, modern art pr commercial advertisement, but all very nice. but traffic is little bit heavy at summit time. There are construction field on street in summer may block the way.
The temperature in summer (in June) is good for travel on day and at night for sleep.
Airport is new and highway is also new and convenient, People are friendly. The city is close to forest, grassland and some sand dunes, landscape are diverse, My only concern is the grassland under great pressure of overgrazing and risk to degradation.
The location is great. It's near the National park, you can walk around the area easily. There are lots of stores and restaurants nearby. Our favorite restaurant is a California cafe.
The host is very responsive and will help you with any inquiry or question. Nika knows English very well, so it made our communication much easier.
The apartment has everything you need if you decide to cook yourself.
August was a great time to stay in Mongolia.
I really enjoyed my time there. Thanks for your great hospitality, Nika!
Just 10-15 mins walking from the main square, but in a quiet alley. CU supermarket open 24/7 if you need a late night snack. Rooms are spacious, elegant, and have very comfortable beds. The hotel concept is esthetically pleasant: a round cylinder with a central staircase and all rooms placed on the sides. The taxi from and to the airport was reliable and available also very early in the morning. I decided to donate some money to a Mongolian Ong and they matched my gift, which I thought was very nice.
Wonderfull stuff and hotel just next to main square. Amazing value for money, definately will return here next time in Ulanbataar. Its perfect value for money, as comfortable as much more expensive 4stars hotels nearby. I would recomend this one the most out of 4 hotels I stazed in Ulanbaataar. Even they prepared for us a sandwich for leaving early for the airport, and the airport taxi was a normal price, not trying to rip us off like in other hotels.
The hotel has great location, the twin room actually has three separate rooms, two balconies with awesome views on UB and breakfast in the room. The staff was very helpful and we could check in before the official time. We also appreciated that we could fill out water bottles with filtered water in the staff room - however, we do recommend to make such a water tank available for everybody's use since the water in the tap is not good to drink.
Very hospitable host and excellent atmosphere at the place. The host offers guided tours, so if you need that too, just book a bed and inquire when you check in. Staying at a dorm room lets you interact with fellow travellers, which makes the experience even better.
I usually prefer private rooms, either hotels or apartments, but really loved this place. When I come to Mongolia next time I will definitely visit Gobi Zen again.
I loved the location to everything. I was able to find it with no problems and the owner stayed up early in the morning to meet me. I also loved how friendly the owner was and how helpful he was finding a sim card place. The owner also helped me find a place to exchange my money. I am from California and travelled to Mongolia by myself and I had the best time.
Great location. Room was also on a high floor with good view. Huge room with alot of space to keep luggage open while moving around the room. Breakfast was good too, I enjoyed it. Would've been better if the TV was a smart TV. Nonetheless, a great deal as I had booked early in advance and enjoyed a good rate for a 5 star hotel on my last night in Mongolia.
Very helpful and responsive staff. They have airport shuttle service and helped me to book a train ticket from UB to Ulan Ude. The location is great too. There’s a bust station in front of the guesthouse where you can take a bus to the train station and it’s 3’ walk to the famous monastery. Short walking distance to central, shopping malls. Good value.
Located at the heart of Ulaanbaatar, this hotel boasts its favorable location for those who do not have a car during their stay. The hotel is located just north of a shopping center "Galleria Ulaanbaatar" and two minutes walk from Sukhbaatar Square. Recently renovated, overall facility of the hotel is tidy and clean.
Location: nice
Staffs: Awesome
Surrounding : They have mini supermart on the 1st floor where you can buy groceries and cook in the room. Every room has induction and utensils. If you need anything the staff love to help you.
This was my 2nd or 3rd stay in this Apartment style hotel.
Very large appartment. Much bigger than hotel room. Washing mschine was super useful! Very close to old airport and work. Very handy , lots of saved time in transport. Lady who gave me keys was very helpful and willing to help. Very nice service. And nice view from 8th floor.
The breakfast area was quite nice, with a good buffet, and the hotel location is good. It was in a quiet corner yet close to the city center. The rooms are decent in terms of cleanliness. They were accommodating and prepared sandwiches instead of breakfast in the morning.
We really enjoyed our stay and if we return to Ulaanbaatar, we will stay there again. The breakfast, which was included, was great. There is also a restaurant that is apart of the hotel, which was really nice and the food was good too!
I never eat breakfast, but tried it once here and got addicted to it.
Perfect bacon and nice pancakes.
Lovely staff who showed me around town
The Room is almost 5 Star and has a good size.
Most things were better than expected
Very spacious room, the bed n pillow is comfy, good varieties of breakfast, window can be opened with fresh air, and it's good value for money. I stayed the hotel again after travelling the western part of Mongolia.
The staff was excellent, friendly, pleasant, and helpful. Edelweiss is a boutique hotel and we enjoyed our stay. We lengthened our stay both before and after our trek because we enjoyed the hotel.
I, like because hostel is very neat & clean, breakfast 🥞 amazing 😍🤩 next time, i myself and my friends will come and stay same Mongolian Vision Tours in city center, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
- English-speaking stuff which is extremely rare for Mongolia.
- The bed was huge and comfy.
- TV had channels in English.
- Wi-Fi was alright.
- Not that far from the center.
